Thelonius Monk

A more reserved person than Dizzy Gillespie, he was also very cerebrial, which is reflected in his piano playing. While other Bebop (Bop) players that were more fast and virtuoso, he used distance, dissonance, and space. He's similar to Count Basie like that, using the dissonance and making the piano like a percussion instrument.

He was most influenced by Duke Ellington, but also Earl Hines (especially his Trumpet Style)

His most popular song is "Round Midnight".

Monk was specifically a teacher much more for those that understood enough to build off what he was saying. He was a bit impatient for those that had no ideas what he was talking about.
