Minstrels

These were white US that would dawn blackface and would go around the plantations and listen to their music. Everybody was making fun of everybody (the blacks would put on black-face and even white-face to make fun of everyone). They were serious musicians that respected the black music (see 3 Antecedents (Starts of Jazz)) and were really musicologists.
