Events

In our study on Sample Spaces, generally $S$ , we need to define:

Event: Any collection (subset of $S$ ) of outcomes within $S$
- Simple Event: Consists of exactly one outcome
- Compound Event: Consists of a choice from more than one outcome

Coin Flip Events

Consider the 3 coin flipping example. Each possibility is a simple event:

$E_{1} = H H H$ , $E_{2} = H H T$ , ..., $E_{8} = T T T$
A compound event could be:
$A = {H T T, T H T, T T H}$ which is the events that we got exactly one head
$B = {T T T, H T T, T H T, T T H}$ where we got at most 1 heads
$C = {H H H, T T T}$ where we got all the same side
If we performed the experiment and got $T T T$ then we got $E_{8}$ and thus event $C$ occurred.
